MiamiDesign200: Symposium on Creativity, Design & Innovation
Miami University, Oxford, Ohio.

Philip Glass, multi-faceted artist and composer, has had an extraordinary impact on music. His “minimalist” style has yielded a wide, multi-generational audience in opera houses, concert halls, the dance world, in film and popular music – simultaneously.  He collaborates regularly on creative projects, having worked with artists raging from Twyla Tharp to Allen Ginsberg, Woody Allen to David Bowie.

As a key Miami Bicentennial Celebration event, Glass’ mid-April residency includes a design thinking symposium (MiamiDesign200) and a solo piano performance. The residency is hosted by the Performing Arts Series, the newly formed Miami Design Collaborative and the Armstrong Institute for Interactive Media Studies.

During the symposium, Glass will present “Creativity and Collaboration,” honing in on the idea of creativity and how disparate artists, educators and students can inspire each other and how their collaborative work can be satisfying—perhaps more satisfying than working alone. Glass will be joined by leaders in design practice, including Sandy Speicher from IDEO’s Transformation practice; Challis Hodge, VP User Experience for The Nielsen Company; Rick Mariani, Senior Creative Director for Interbrand; and Shane Meeker, Associate Design Fellow at Procter & Gamble.
